My Kingdom for a Cake

Anyone who walked into the school last week would have been forgiven for thinking that it was a bakery because of all the marvellous cakes brought in to celebrate our annual reading challenge – Cakespeare!

The idea was to bake, buy or draw and decorate a cake that could be given to William Shakespeare to celebrate his birthday and all of the entries were AMAZING. So much so that Lizzie Payton from The Phoenix comic, who kindly came to the school to judge the competition, just couldn’t decide which to choose as winner. Therefore, all of the children received a certificate and prize for their efforts, and rightly so, too.

Below are pictures of most of our entries (there are a few missing as they came in earlier). These will be displayed in the Library for all to see when we come back in the Autumn term, so please do come in to see them.

All that is left is for me to wish everyone a lovely summer break and, for those of you who are leaving us, all the best for the future and make sure you come back to visit us!

Oxford library events over the Summer

Even though our lovely school library will be closed over the summer holidays, there is still plenty going on in our fantastic town libraries to keep you busy! Take a look at this web page for more information: https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/events/venue/1483

The following events might take your fancy:

Story and craft events relating to ‘The Big Friendly Read’ – Saturday 23rd July,  Monday 1st August and Thursday 18th August, all from 11am to 12pm.

The University of Oxford Museum’s Service is going to be running ticketed events. They have run children’s events to tie in with the Summer Reading Challenge for several years.  In previous years they have done storytelling and crafts as well as bringing artefacts from the museums for the children to handle. Pop in to one of the following:

Littlemore Library: Thursday 4th August: 11am to 12pm

Blackbird Leys Library: Thursday 4th August: 2-3pm

Cowley Library: Wednesday 10th August: 2-3

And don’t forget of course that there is The Big Friendly Read happening throughout the summer, where you challenge yourself to read six books and receive small awards after every two. Since you are all fantastic readers, I know this will be easy for you!

Do come and show me your reading records after the break!
